I have been spending some time familiarizing myself with the technology I have received through the grant. I read the manual for the Aver Media document camera, set the camera up and viewed a few of the webinars http://www.averusa.com/presentation/webinar.asp. I have been using the document camera to do my demonstrations during class ever since, I love it! I quickly figured out how to record my demonstrations, but I needed a way to play back the demonstration from the day before or week before for those students who were absent. I decided to find a way to put the videos onto my ipod touch and ipad. I began researching on the internet to find out how to do this, and discovered that all I needed was Any Video Converter http://download.cnet.com/Any-Video-Converter/3000-2194_4-10661456.html so that I could convert the video to an MPEG 4 and then to put it in my itunes and then sync my devices. AWESOME!! This technology is especially helpful for those students who need repetition, I play the demonstration back multiple times throughout class. The document camera, ipod and ipad have transformed my classroom for the better in the short month that I have had them.
I will continue to research new ways to use my technology in the classroom.
How are you using technology and how does/did it impact your students
I have been using my document camera to record every demonstration I do with the students, I then play this demo back for the kids throughout the class. I also transfer the videos to the ipod and the ipad for students who have missed class due to illness or band. Playing the demo over and over has really improved the quality of my students work, especially those who have trouble remembering multiple steps. I also have two special needs children in my art class, one that is blind and has severe brain damage and one that has multiple disabilities, I have used the ipad to help these students to participate in class. The blind student uses story programs to have the story read to him, as well as an animal sound program and musical sound programs. The other student uses some of the paint programs, but loves the musical instruments. I have used the ipad to locate photos for students to use during a project and for use during down time. I recently was doing a Warhol project combined with printmaking over a number of classes, a student missed all but 1 class so they did the assignment using the ipad. In the future I hope to have more ipads so that the class could do an entire assignment on them.~Rachael Kelly
How are you using technology and how does/did it impact your documentation Rachael Kelly~I have been using a wiki to document my project. I am using photographs, voice recordings and videos.
How are you using technology and how does/did it impact the inquiry question
Rachael Kelly~ Technology was important to introducing the concept to the students, I showed them slideshows of recycled art, environmental art and videos about recycled art. We used the internet to find photos and images to use in our collaboration project. Using the document camera I was able to video the demonstrations for weaving and latch hook techniques and play them continuously for the students which really helped them along.
